The delivery of training can make or break the success of it. When a training is delivered well, the learners walk away with a clear understanding of the content, and how it is pertinent to them. This post will outline our top four tips for improving training delivery.

Know Your Audience

Knowing your audience is the most important part of successful training delivery. It is critical to know who is receiving the training, so that you can provide appropriate information. Prior to creating any training materials your baseline understanding should include who the target audience is, what they already know, and what they need to know.

Set and Explain Learning Objectives

Learning objectives explain what a learner should learn from the training. Objectives help to provide a clear purpose for the training during the development phase, but also for the learners participating in the training. “Explain the things to be achieved and how they will be able to use them in their day-to-day work” (Avelino,2022)

Utilize Various Modalities

Deliver your training through a combination of modalities. This may be combining e-learning training with some in-person training. You can also combine different modalities eLearning, for example, adding videos, simulations, and short response questions to a course. Consider combining multiple modalities for a maximized learner experience. “Make sure to keep your training activities exciting and fresh, so you will inspire and energize your attendees” (Waugh, 2017). Providing training through different modalities will allow you to reinforce the content for learners.

Provide Opportunities for Community Engagement

“Providing a space for your teams to share ideas on hot topics, themes, wins, new programs, and learner reactions enhances your team’s morale and promotes knowledge sharing and celebration” (Bridgett & Williamson, 2023). You can provide these opportunities through online forums, or by hosting Q&A sessions. These opportunities encourage team bonding and also give learners the opportunity to ask questions.

To deliver successful training, it is critical to know your audience and establish clear goals and learning objectives. Once you have an understanding of what content needs to be delivered, think of ways to get creative. Allow your learners to participate in the learning process by thinking of ways that they can engage with the training.
