We are now well into 2022, and it is becoming clear that remote work is here to stay. While we are also still in the midst of the great resignation, corporations around the world are “struggling to fill positions, maintain operations with their existing employees, and strategize for the long-term effects of this crisis” (Gautam, 2021). As a result, many companies are looking to switch their training to eLearning in order to upskill and reskill employees. The way that people work is evolving and changing; therefore, the way that we address learning must also evolve and adapt to the changes. With so many recent shifts in the workplace, organization leaders may feel overwhelmed by the thought of also developing a new training curriculum.
The RedThread Employee Development Framework was designed to outline “the behaviors orgs should be enabling in their employees in order to have a solid learning culture” (Adams & Johnson, 2021). The 6 behaviors outlined in the RedThread Framework are: plan, discover, consume, experiment, connect, and perform. There is no one size fits all approach to learning, organizations must first identify the gaps in their training and then determine which learning method best suits their needs. A conscious focus on each of these behaviors allows employers and L&D professionals to determine the best approach to learning.
Current learning trends focus on the hybrid workplace and a transition to digital learning, so it is critical to implement effective training through an eLearning platform. Research findings repeatedly show that employees feel that they learn more through informal experiences, “Modern learners seek a more engaging, intuitive, interactive experience; one that mirrors how they use technology in their personal life, including a simple, mobile-first design, powerful search capabilities, clearly organized libraries, easy access to video content and so much more” (Tratar, 2022). To address the modern learners, L&D professionals focus on learning methods that encourage learner engagement and participation. The learning methods we are using are not necessarily changing; however, we are implementing them in ways that address next gen learning.
Organizations must assess whether they are supporting the 6 behaviors outlined in the RedThred Framework and determine any gaps. Through needs analysis, Emerge ID can help you to determine the best approach for addressing these behaviors to best serve your organization. A combined focus on current learning trends as well as an organized eLearning program will help to successfully upskill, reskill, and onboard employees.
