Are you Delivering Successful Compliance Training?

e According to Wikipedia, “Compliance training refers to the process of educating employees on laws, regulations, and company policies that apply to their day-to-day job responsibilities”.

Compliance training covers a range of topics, here are just a few examples:

  • Code of conduct

  • Company procedures and policies

  • Data privacy and security

  • Federal and state laws

  • OSHA regulations

  • Workplace safety

  • Workplace violence

  • Sexual harassment

  • Workplace discrimination

Compliance training is a requirement of most jobs, but it is often stigmatized as boring, or a waste of time. So how can you provide effective compliance training that doesn’t put your employees to sleep? Delivering compliance training through customized eLearning may be the solution.

Advantages of eLearning Activities

The advantage of moving your compliance training to eLearning is that you can add interactivity to engage learners and hopefully create more job specific training opportunities. Instructional designers specialize in creating activities that will engage the learner. Developing scenario based activities, infographics, and videos that actually relate to your industry or even job specific roles. “Instead of delivering generic courses or content-dumping, understand how your compliance topics affect the way different employee groups should be thinking about and doing their jobs” (Kahlon, 2021). Relevant scenarios allow your employees to feel more connected to the training that they are participating in. The knowledge and skills that are developed will be more likely to stick with them.

Customized Solutions

Developing your own custom training also allows you to address your audience in terms that they can clearly understand. One of the top reasons that compliance training fails is because procedures are not made clear. A custom build training experience ensures clarity and relevance in terms that employees will be able to better comprehend.

While many companies do choose to just utilize pre-existing compliance training offered online, these may not always be the most up to date, especially for your specific needs. “To be most effective, the training should not be limited to once a year; rather, it should address new and updated policies and procedures or relevant regulatory or enforcement in close to real time” (Tormey, 2021). However, establishing an eLearning plan allows you to easily update or add materials on an as needed basis so that your employees always receive the most relevant information at the best opportune time.
